Debbie Peagler, a survivor of brutal domestic violence, spent over a quarter century in a California prison, charged in connection with the murder of the man who abused her. Crime After Crime documents how two rookie attorneys, one an Orthodox Jew, step forward to get her case reopened.
The director methodically captures their five year legal battle, during which Peagler remained behind bars even after being diagnosed with cancer. Their investigation brings to light long lost witnesses, new testimonies from the men who committed the murder, and proof of perjured evidence, eventually attracting global attention.
After spending 26 years in prison, the spirit of this determined African-American woman could not be crushed.
